Students approved in the selection process must register initially and fulfill the following obligations during their master's degree:
PROJECT
Submit a research project based on the FAPESP templates within 2 months of registration.
Students receiving CAPES scholarships must submit proof of their project to FAPESP within 3 months of receiving the scholarship. If the project is not submitted to FAPESP, the advisor must present a justification to the Program's Teaching Committee (CEPG).
APPROVAL OF THE PROJECT BY THE ETHICS COMMITTEE
Submit proof of the project's submission to UNIFESP's Research Ethics Committee (CEP or CEUA) no later than 2 months after enrollment.
Within 6 months of registration, submit proof that the project has been approved by the CEP or CEUA.
TEACHING INTERNSHIP
CAPES scholarship recipients who receive at least one month of scholarship must complete at least one internship in the Teaching Improvement Program (PAD). This requirement applies to CAPES scholarship recipients or recipients of scholarships from other funding agencies.
PRESENTATION AT A SCIENTIFIC EVENT
Participate in at least one scientific event with a presentation of research related to your master's degree.
CRÉDITOS
Complete at least 18 credits in classes, three of which are obligatory:
Theoretical Foundations in Ecology and Evolution (8 credits)
Methodology and Scientific Communication (4 credits) and
Seminars in Ecology and Evolution (2 credits)
Complete at least 7 credits in complementary activities (check items valid as complementary activities in the form at the link below)
ENGLISH PROFICIENCY
Provide proof of English language proficiency within 6 months of registration. Click below for a list of accepted certificates.
ANNUAL ACTIVITY REPORT
Submit the annual activity report no later than 30 days after completing one year registered at the PPGEE.
QUALIFYING EXAM
Take the qualifying exam between the 12th and 18th month of the master's degree, from the date of initial inscription. The qualifying exam at the PPGEE consists of submitting a text, in pre-dissertation format, and a public oral presentation on the progress of the student's research project. RE-REGISTRATION
All students need to re-register for the PGEE via SIIU at the beginning of each year (note that re-registering for the program is not the same as the application for classes).
GUIDELINES FOR THE USE OF AI IN POST-GRADUATE STUDIES
Pursuant to Resolution No. 17/2025, issued by the Graduate Studies and Research Council (CPGPq), the use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) tools at any stage of academic work, articles, reports, final course projects, dissertations, and theses must be explicitly disclosed and documented by the author, specifying:
I. The tool used;
II. The purpose of its use;
III. The content produced or modified by the GAI.
This requirement applies to all work submitted in the context of courses taken by students. To learn more about the responsible use of IAG, see this informational booklet and this IAG Guide.
The final thesis, which will be submitted at the time of the defense request, must include, in the methods section, both the name(s) of the AI(s) used in the preparation of the thesis and a description of the respective use(s) of the AI(s). At the time of the defense request, the AI usage statement must also be submitted (see here for more details).
